Question: My 10-year-old son is getting interested in comic books.
He's no longer interested only in Garfield and Foxtrot;
now he also wants to read Spiderman, X-Men, etc. I don't
have an objection per se to the idea of Spiderman -- I
enjoyed the movie -- but some things in those comic books
are too gory or too sexy for a 10-year-old. (If you
didn't know this, maybe you'd like to look at your kid's
comic books.)
Can anyone recommend some comics that are dramatic enough
to keep a kid's interest, and still decent?
Answer: You might try the Yusagi (Usagi?)Yojimbo books. Its a cartoon ronin rabbit,
pretty clean from what I can remember... And you might ask at your library
they have some Graphic Novels that have been cleaned up for younger readers.
Another thing you could do is look for the 50 years of Batman, Superman, etc
books.... has comics from when they started and its a lot cleaner than the
stuff they put out today.... You might find those under cartooning/drawing
instead of in the graphic novels section...
Comics/Graphic novels can often be a good lead into drawing. And if it does
almost any graphic novel series (or even just a book series) will have a
book or two of just art of the charactors etc from the series. (of course
you'd want to check those out too as its art and sometimes things that
aren't/can't be put in the novels.)
