Question:
No, this isn't about special con editions of comic books, sorry. Nope, this
is about comic books set at comic book conventions. Peter David's CAPTAIN
MARVEL had the ever-versatile and near omni-present Rick Jones working at a
comic book shop. Judd Winick's GREEN LANTERN had Kyle Radner working as a
comic book illustrator. But have their been comic book stories set in a
con--more than a mere cameo, but actually used the con setting to "inform"
the story?
Answer:
-I remember one in a New Warriors annual where both Turbos visited a con. I
think the male Turbo wanted Fabien Nicieza to sign his platinum cover
X-Force #1.
-There was Flash #268 (1978) -- "Riddle of the Runaway Comic Book!"
Barry Allen visits the first annual Central City Comicon and finds
himself hunting an elusive copy of Flash Comics #26 that seems to pop
from one place to another. A pair of crooks dressed as the Golden Age
GL and Wildcat are also after it, and hold up the dealer's table at
gunpoint. It turns out the comic was treated with an experimental
chemical that responds to telepathic thought. We also get a glimpse
of Barry's enormous personal comics collection which apparently filled
the wall-to-wall shelves lining his den.
